Chemical Peels

February 24, 2019

Chemical peel can help with so many visible signs of aging! With all the new techniques used to get rid of acne scarring, fine lines, and skin discoloration, chemical peels remain one of the best and most cost effective. They are a staple cosmetic treatment for medical dermatologists. A series of gentle chemical peels is one of the most minimally invasive ways to get your glowing and keep it radiant year round.

Chemical peels help treat:

  • Wrinkles

  • Sun damage

  • Acne scarring

  • Dull complexion

  • Hyperpigmentation

Each one of our carefully derived peels are made up of a blend of acids chosen to treat different needs. Let’s talk about what acids are in them and what exactly they do!

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) – these are a whole group of acids that exfoliate the upper most layers of skin creating smoother, more hydrated, visibly firmer skin.

  • Glycolic Acid

    • This is the big hitter of the AHAs. It has been proven to show the most impressive results for all types of skin. This is most likely because of its ability to penetrate the uppermost layers of skin, and how it hydrates the skin conditioning it to become better at retaining its own natural moisture over time.

  • Lactic Acid

    • This is another one of the big AHAs. It does everything that glycolic acid does, just a little bit slower slightly reducing its ability to penetrate the skin. At different concentrations lactic acid will hydrate and exfoliate.

Salicylic Acid

  • This acid’s main function is to exfoliate. It helps to shed dead skin just as your skin did naturally when you were younger. It has the capability to exfoliate inside the pore as well as on the surface of the skin due to its ability to penetrate into the pore lining. This acid is super effective in reducing breakouts!

Here are the peels that we offer in our office!

  • Get glowing peel

    • This is a lighter peel done to enhance your skins natural glow. It will leave your skin feeling smoother with less blemishes.

  • Advanced peel

  • TCA peel

    • This trichloracetic acid peel will reduce age spots and fine lines, along with improve the texture of sun damaged skin. This peel can be done in concentrations of 5%-100%.

  • Boosting Peel Pads

    • We sell quick and disposable peel pads for daily at home use. They include glycolic and salicylic acids, along with witch hazel which reduces the skins surface oil and refines pore size.

Now that you know all about our peels, lets talk about what to expect when you get one done!

Preparing for your peel

  • Proper skin preparation will boost the results of your peel! Preparation should begin six to 12 weeks prior to the peel. Your dermatologist might suggest using a topical retinoid, alpha-hydroxy acid, hydroquinone, and a sunblock containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide in the weeks leading up to your chemical peel. These will help enhance the skins response to the peel and prevent any complications.

What to expect during your peel

  • First your dermatologist will throughly clean your skin. The peel will then be applied quickly and evenly on the treatment area. Your dermatologist will closely watch the area and carefully remove the peel at just the right time for your skin. You may need a cool compress followed by some lotion to sooth the area. And that’s it!

After Care

  • In the days following your peel expect your skin to become dry and even flake off as you can see in the photos below. After your skin has recovered from that, after care involves continuing the pretreatment topical regimen, along with close follow up appointments to insure quick detection of any infection or scarring.
